Antonette E. Russell

 

ANC 5C01 Woodridge

 

 

Antonette E. Russell is a native Washingtonian who is dedicated to improving her neighborhood and being a committed public servant for the residents of the District of Columbia. Antonette is a former resident of Ward 6 where she served as an ANC Commissioner for the neighborhood that includes Barney Circle and Hill East (ANC 6B09). She began her community service as the Secretary of the Barney Circle Neighborhood Watch Association and then she became the President of the neighborhood group. The Barney Circle Neighborhood Watch maintained an Orange Hat patrol that served as a way to connect with other neighbors and to demonstrate the community’s interest in preventing crime.

Antonette was also a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee (CAC) for the Department of Corrections during which she helped communicate the agency's role and mission to the public.

She also served on the Redistricting Task Force for Ward 6. The Ward 6 Redistricting Task Force designed and developed a report using census data and maps to adjust the boundaries of the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANC) and Single-Member Districts (SMD) in Ward 6.

While serving as the ANC Commissioner for 6B09, Antonette was the vice-Chair of the Planning and Zoning Committee and the vice-Chair of 6B09. As the vice-Chair of the Planning and Zoning committee, she gained experience tackling issues regarding new commercial development, transportation studies, special exception construction, zoning requirements, commercial overlays, voluntary agreements, public space, and historic preservation cases.

Antonette attended H.D. Woodson Senior High school. She has a B.A. in English Arts from Hampton University and a joint Masters Degree from Regent University in Public Administration and Finance.


Antonette is currently the Operations Director for the non-profit organization DC Vote which works to help secure full voting representation in Congress and full democracy for the residents of the District of Columbia. As the Operations Director, Antonette assists in the day-to-day leadership and management of the organization and directs the financial and human resources functions.

Antonette shares her life with her husband Reuben Hameed and her pint size pooch, Chianti. Reuben is an architectural design and construction professional, sustainable architecture advocate, and historic preservationist.
